About Us

Manta Ray Software was formed in the Spring of 2005 with the singular goal of channeling our development skills and extensive user experience into creating better software. We believe that software exists to enable users to achieve their goals. Poor software is frustrating because it is more difficult to use. We strive to make the user’s experience the best it can be.
We are big fans of Alan Cooper whose books (The Inmates Are Running the Asylum, About Face 3
) describe what great user experiences are about. We are also fans of Joel Spolsky (Joel on Software [Book 1
, Book 2
] [Website]), Steve McConnell (Code Complete
, Rapid Development
) and Edward Tufte (The Visual Display of Quantitative Information
, Envisioning Information
, Visual Explanations
) who is a genius at visual representation of information.
Like many small companies, we have aspirations of making notable contributions to the personal computing landscape. Apple’s release of the iPhone in 2007 gave us an opportunity to work on an exciting new platform and ecosystem which we felt had a lot of potential. We first chose a tip calculator because it was easy to build quickly and we had ideas on how we could make ours unique. Tippety Split was released in July 2008, and has enjoyed a modest reception. Other exciting products are in the works.
We are always looking for interesting ideas for applications to bring to the iOS and other platforms. Which brings us to the most important goal for us: make our customers happy by listening to their needs. We welcome any and all feedback about our products!
